My film story is a project co-funded by the European Social Fund with which Art-kino aims to strengthen the development of local film culture and to involve our fellow citizens over 54 years old in the cultural life of the community. Members of the newly founded Film Club 54+ will thus be able to actively participate in the design of appropriate film programs during the 2018/19 movie season, attend eight different creative workshops, and volunteer in the realization of regular Art-kino programs.
People over the age of 54 are a very important age group for Art-kino. The general Art-kino audience has a share of approximately 30% of people over the age of 54, and the cooperation with the National Pensioners’ Convention of Rijeka is regularly negotiated in the form of financial benefits for the seniors. However, due to the lack of human and financial capacities, Art-kino is not able to carry out more activities for the age group of over 54 years old.
Our desire is to provide senior citizens a quality cultural and artistic content that can reach a wider audience within this age group. Given that within this group there are individuals of different creative aspirations as well as different interests in engaging in activities of larger or smaller scope in the My Film Story project, the elements are planned accordingly. Activities are planned through three elements which include volunteer work at the Art-kino, creative workshops and regular programs for the elderly, organized by people over the age of 54, open to the general public. These elements will ensure a high degree of involvement in the work of Art-kino as well as participation in the cultural life in Rijeka.
Art-kino recognizes the benefits and necessity of diverse activities in working with seniors. The aim is to carry out activities of different levels of participation, but always for the purpose of socializing and strengthening the community and improving the quality of life. The supply of cultural activities often neglects the possibility for seniors to participate in the creation of various content and support at the volunteer level.
In order to meet the interests, opportunities and needs of the participants of this project, regular consultations with groups of interest will improve and adapt accordingly to the project activities.
Through various activities, the project will enable a greater social inclusion of the participants by strengthening the relational aspects, that is by creating and strengthening social ties and by participating in the work of the public institution in culture.
Volonteer work on regular Art-kino programs
Involvement of seniors in the work of Art-kino (usher obligations - ticket control, audience accommodation, assistance in the projection of the program, etc.). Through this element, participants will be in continuous contact with the audience (regular audiences on daily screenings, organized school screenings for elementary and high schools - School at the Cinema), and will have the opportunity to participate in the implementation of various programs and thus develop cognitive, social and emotional skills.
Participants will choose, according to their preferences, in which activities do they wish to participate in. The workshops will be held in durations of different length and will be led by experts from each area. The workshops will develop various skills, primarily creative, cognitive and social, and participants will gain different knowledge in the field of film (film criticism, acting ...) and the use of technology (for example, the use of cell phones for filming, advertisement on social networks).
Film Club 54+ programs for the public
Through the activities of Film Club 54+, active participation in the creation of the Art-kino program aimed at the seniors will be ensured. Through regular meetings, participants of this element will work on the program selection, organization and active promotion of the special program on a monthly basis. This will achieve a high level of involvement in the cultural offer of the city of Rijeka and the region, according to the needs and interests of the target group.
All of these elements will also significantly contribute in increasing the visibility of senior citizens and recognizing their potential to contribute to the community. Activities are planned to regularly inform the media about the implementation of the elements and to run social network pages.
The realization of the My Film Story project fits in with activities in line with the Art-kino's Strategic Plan for the period from 2016 to 2020 according to which Art-kino recognizes that this target group often lacks quality leisure activities and wants to "maintain and develop a quality relationship with this social group, working with their associations, special programs and pricing regimes and including them as "Ambassadors of Art-kino"."
OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROJECT: Strengthening and development of the community of senior people of Rijeka and the region through various workshop, production and volunteer activities, thus increasing their visibility in society and improving the quality of life. Art-kino aims highly and expects at least 500 people of the target age group to participate in the project activities.
