Winter Holidays at the movies

Winter Holidays at the movies

Published: 24.12.2019.

Spend the winter holidays in the company of Tim Burton and his memorable hits Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhand's, Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Batman

The holiday atmosphere alongside the films of Tim Burton has a special charm, so the last weekend in December is reserved precisely for the films of the eccentric American director. Friday December 27th brings a black and white biopic in a tragicomical manner named Ed Wood (1994) which shows us the life of the infamous American director Edward D. Wood, Jr., with Johnny Depp, Martin Landau and Sarah Jessica Parker in the lead roles. The story of an author, who over time has earned the title of "the worst director of all time", is a praised and nostalgic dedication to unrivaled optimism, repeatedly proclaimed as a work that turns "trash into movie gold".

Saturday, December 28th at 6 pm brings one of the most beautiful modern fairy tales from Burton's twisted oeuvre, Edward Scissorhands (1990). This time, Johnny Depp, in the company of the equally striking Winona Ryder, plays an unforgettable role, in the moving story that follows the life of an unusually gentle young man who has scissors instead of hands, in the neighborhood of a small American town whose inhabitants, with all their fingers, sometimes lack humanity and understanding.

We're closing the weekend with Burton on Sunday, December 29th at 6pm with the comical family adventure Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Burton's directorial debut is a warm and exciting tale of a man-child embarking on a manic odyssey from one end of the earth to bring back his greatest treasure - a red bicycle.

Our hangout with the author's heroes extends further to one more appointment, on January 10th, 2020 at 8pm, when our small series of Burton movies closes with the critically and commercially celebrated Batman (1989) with Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger in the lead roles. With a striking visual identity, Burton's Batman was the first to focus on the character of the Joker, in Jack Nicholson's unforgettable and fan-favorite interpretation.
