A fundamental work of the French New-Wave, the gangster melodrama Breathless (1960), a debut feature by Jean-Luc Godard, who has paved the way for the new direction of the world cinematography, is coming to Art-kino’s big screen.

The Cinema Classic programme in March brings to Art-kino one of the most influential films of both French and world cinematography - Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard – on Thursday, 12 March at 19:00. An introduction to the film will be made by a culturologist

This fundamental piece of the French New-Wave initiated a series of new film procedures, such as intertextuality, deletion of genre boundaries, interweaving feature and documentary, motion capture, breaking the fourth wall, unconventional editing (the so-called jump cuts), and it is a forerunner of youth emancipation and revolutionary mentality which came to the fore in the late 1960s.

The gangster melodrama is happening in Paris, with the protagonists being a petty French thief Michel Poiccard (Jean-Paul Belmondo) and a young American student and aspiring journalist Patricia (Jean Seberg). The young man falls in love with the student, but she rejects him because dating a misfit guy does not blend well into her life plans. However, she is dazzled by his sincerity, enthusiasm and boundless infatuation, so she remains by his side even before the police chase.                                                             Godard's screenplay is an adaptation of the original story by François Truffaut.

Tickets can be booked via email (ulaznice@art-kino.org) and purchased at the Art-kino box office every day from 16:00 to 20:30 or online (www.ulaznice.hr).
